The DMX 3-pin M - 5-pin F Connector is a signal adaptor with a 3-pin male XLR DMX plug on one end and a 5-pin female XLR DMX socket on the other, allowing equipment or cable wired to the 3-pin DMX512 standard to connect into a 5-pin DMX line, or vice versa.
This is a common requirement on mixed rigs where some fixtures use the 3-pin convention and others the 5-pin standard specified in the original DMX512 spec, and it is a standard item in any lighting technician’s connector kit.
